本書では、古代ギリシアから現代までの主な哲学を、予備知識がなくても理解できるような平明さで取り扱っている。古代から現代に至る各哲学者のもっとも代表的な哲学を、わかりやすく解説した。難解でなじみのない用語や術語は、原語の意味を考慮して、誰にでも理解できるような言い換えをこころみた。各哲学のもっとも中心的なテーマに重点を置いて説明した。各哲学の批判にどういうものがあるかをも紹介した。哲学者の自伝的要素も、その哲学に強い影響がある限り、コラム等で紹介した。各哲学の時代背景は、章末に付した比較年表を以て説明に代えた。他の本と異なり、各哲学の背後にある宗教についても正しい解説をした。

This book covers the major philosophies from ancient Greece to the present day in a simple manner that can be understood even without prior knowledge. It provides easy-to-understand explanations of the most representative philosophies of each philosopher from ancient times to the present day. For difficult and unfamiliar terms and terminology, we have attempted to rephrase them so that anyone can understand them, taking into account the meaning of the original language. We have focused on the most central themes of each philosophy. We have also introduced the criticisms of each philosophy. We have also introduced the autobiographical elements of the philosophers in columns, etc., to the extent that they have had a strong influence on the philosophy. The historical background of each philosophy is explained in place of an explanation using a comparative timeline at the end of each chapter. Unlike other books, we have provided accurate explanations of the religion behind each philosophy.
